The scent of Sandalwood
July 24, 2026 - Public LetterThe scent of sandalwood drifts from the swell of my breast to the majesty of my neck. The oud plays, weaving forgotten tales and secrets into every chord, every lingering note. Turkish and Moroccan lamps cast a warm, hypnotic glow, while roses shed their petals onto the Persian rugs, below a tiny, portable fan catches the air, driving a gentle wind deeper into my chambers. It is nearly noon. Wrapped in golden sheets, I savor the tart juice of a citrus, lost in the stillness. Two nights remain until Salome is reborn, the Dance of the Seven Veils, a tragedy spun into the art of dance and song. Nearby, the worn brown leather of my journals catches the sun, tempting me to transcribe the deepest desires I have kept buried for so long. The enchanted court awaits.
A flood of music, harp, poetry, and song well up against my heart, yearning to break into the physical realm. "We must open the doors," Rufio whispers…or perhaps he shouts…across the distance. "It has been too long; we must unseal the court, fill the vaults with enchantment, and let them see."
The harp pieces braid together, echoing the tales of Scheherazade for one thousand and one nights. Here, music creates the hues, the colors, and the stories. Today, we sing one song; tomorrow, another; and when we have finally exhaled our heart’s yearnings, we will dance, we will pluck the strings, and we will carve our dreams of eternity into gemstones from thousands…
The ancient oud plays on, and the temple doors swing wide. I must dance. Oh, guide me through these coming nights, that I may dwell within the gardens of bliss…a sanctuary, far from the noise of the world beyond these walls. I will remain tethered to the nymphs, the muses, and the maidens, turning this day into a jewel, a keepsake for the soul.
