Have you heard of the enchanter?

Once I knew an enchanter,
With a gaze both soft and secretive.
His voice, sweet as the honeycomb
Soft with feminine grace.
But beware, for it is woe in disguise.
He would seduce you with words and songs of love,
"Mon petit cœur," he sings,
I think it means ‘my little heart’.
He sweetly plucks the strings of your heart
Hitting every note so sweetly
Then slips down the fire escape.
Before Dawn can ask his name.
He drinks the wine of your poetry,
Then dances to a tune of his own.
Have you heard of the enchanter?
Whose melody all lovers sing,
Whose voice moves me to dance.
He retreats to the motherland
To bask beneath her silver moon.
Then makes Cupid his play thing.
How cruel, that beauty should be so cold.
Have you heard of the enchanter?
Oh, you must have heard of him.
